Utility of Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Veterinary Sciences with Special Reference to Dogs and Cats: A Review

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become the gold standard for soft tissue and neurological imaging in companion animals. This review discusses the principles of MRI, its comparative advantages over other imaging modalities, and its clinical applications in dogs and cats, with a focus on neurology, orthopedics, oncology, internal medicine, and future advancements such as artificial intelligence and functional imaging.

Transfrontal craniotomy for surgical removal of frontal meningioma in a canine patient: A case study

This case report describes the successful surgical management of a frontal meningioma in a 9-year-7-month-old Golden Retriever presented with recurrent seizures. Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography identified an extra-axial cystic mass in the left olfactory and frontal region. Preoperative planning incorporated a patient-specific 3D-printed skull model generated from CT-DICOM data. A transfrontal craniotomy enabled near-complete excision of the mass, with histopathology confirming a cystic meningioma, microcystic variant, consistent with WHO Grade I. The patient recovered uneventfully, with complete resolution of seizures and normal neurological status at one-month follow-up. The case highlights the role of advanced imaging, 3D-printed surgical planning, specialized neurosurgical techniques, and comprehensive perioperative management in canine intracranial surgery.

TPLO-M: A Dual-Purpose Solution for CCL and MPL in Dogs

TPLO-M is an innovative modification of the traditional Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) designed to simultaneously address Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) rupture and Medial Patellar Luxation (MPL) in dogs. By combining stabilization of the cranial cruciate ligament with controlled lateralization of the tibial tuberosity using a stack plate, the technique eliminates the need for separate corrective procedures. Clinical evaluation of 17 canine patients demonstrated excellent patellar stability, rapid return to weight-bearing, reduced operative time, lower implant inventory requirements, and favorable functional outcomes. TPLO-M represents a practical, economical, and biomechanically sound advancement in small animal orthopedic surgery.

Design concept of an extracortical implant for canine total hip replacement: A technical note

This technical note presents the Prime Hip Barrel-Plate System, an innovative extracortical, canal-sparing approach to canine total hip replacement. The system uses proximal metaphyseal fixation through a controlled femoral neck tunnel combined with a lateral extracortical plate, preserving the femoral intramedullary canal. The paper describes the implant concept, biomechanical rationale, proposed surgical technique, potential advantages, limitations, failure modes, and future clinical applications. The design aims to reduce stress shielding, eliminate femoral broaching risks, preserve future revision options, and provide proximal load transfer while maintaining the integrity of the femoral canal.
